Bright Futures Programme

Your introduction into law

This is an opportunity to spend a week in one of our world-renowned departments and to shadow one of our experienced lawyers. You’ll be able to get experience one of our complex legal transactions, develop an understanding of our core industry sectors and learn how we help our clients to achieve their commercial objectives.

How we support you

Part of this programme is about giving you exposure to the work we carry out day-in and day-out. But we also want to give you the support and guidance you’ll need to embark on a career with us. So over 9 months you will have a trainee buddy and associate mentor. They’ll be on hand to answer any questions you have and provide ongoing mentoring. You’ll also be invited back to the firm over the year to further develop your skills and attend learning & development workshops and networking events. The aim is to put you in the best position possible when it comes to applying for vacation schemes the following year.

Your Application

This nine-month programme is aimed at people from lower socioeconomic status groups who've not yet had an opportunity to gain commercial work experience. Candidates must meet at least one of the following criteria: You should be eligible for free school meals between the ages of 11-16, have grown up in a household where no parent/guardian had attended university, or have experience of another form of social disadvantage.

We’ll want to know about any other work experience you may have had and why you’d like to join us. You don’t need to have previous legal experience, but you should definitely be commercially-minded and able to tell us why you think you’d be a good fit here. And just to let you know, we use RARE – a contextual recruitment system that’s been built with fairness and equality front of mind.

The Application Process

You’ll need to make your application online between 1st October and 10th November 2019.We’ll ask you to fill in your personal details, tell us about any previous work experience and answer a number of questions about why you’d like to join our firm, and this programme in particular. We’ll also want to know about your commercial awareness. You don’t need to have any previous legal experience – this is more about us finding out about your skills and potential. We use RARE contextual recruitment which helps us to look at your achievements in context and ensures we get the broadest possible mix of attendees.
